Despite more than a year of intermittent prayerful help from faithful Christian Science practitioners along with my own study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, at one time I could not seem to see any progress toward healing. (The problem was one of increasing lameness in my legs and lower back accompanied by almost constant pain.) Yet I knew I didn't have to—and mustn't—give in to discouragement. I knew, too, the importance of being alert to spiritual intuition, whereby we hear, or spiritually understand, God's Word and find answers to our prayers.

In the spring of 1979 I acted on a thought that kept coming to me to call on a certain Christian Science practitioner with whom I had once had brief contact and who lived in a city several hundred miles away. My husband agreed to drive me to see him. When we arrived, even though I didn't have an appointment, the practitioner agreed to see me within the hour.

During our visit, the practitioner and I talked of man's real, divine origin, which contradicts the false human beliefs that claim man is entirely biological or at least part matter, part Spirit. He then referred me to this statement in the Christian Science textbook (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 561): "John saw the human and divine coincidence, shown in the man Jesus, as divinity embracing humanity in Life and its demonstration,—reducing to human perception and understanding the Life which is God."
