The Holy Ghost blots out racism

"Into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not." Matt. 10:5. So spake Jesus to his disciples
When he sent them forth to preach and heal.
Why that "not"?

He had gone into Samaria, had preached there
To the woman at the well, to many more,
Who had recognized him as the Christ.
A Samaritan it was whom he had chosen
As highest type of neighborly love.
Then, why should he command the twelve:
"...into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not."

"Ye shall be witnesses unto me...in Samaria ...." Acts 1:8. So spake Jesus to his disciples,
After his resurrection, before his ascension.
Why now?

Now they knew better: their suffering, his reappearing,
Had purged them of pride and condescension,
Of prejudice and racial hatred.
Now they were ready for the Holy Ghost,
For the understanding of one Father and all His children.
As Christ's witnesses in the uttermost part of the earth
They could see God's man—even in Samaria!
