Some years ago, while I was having some minor dental work...

Some years ago, while I was having some minor dental work done, the dentist told me that I had a severe case of pyorrhea and that extensive procedures would be necessary to save my teeth. I was very much upset.

Later, as my husband drove me home, I told him what the dentist had said. But we agreed that we didn't have to accept the dentist's diagnosis. Instead, we voiced the spiritual truths that came to us, and throughout the evening we prayed to gain a correct view of the situation. I felt confident and peaceful. The next morning, however, I became very fearful. I tried by phone to contact the teacher from whom I had received Christian Science class instruction but learned that he was away and couldn't be reached for a few days. So I wrote him a note.

In several days I received a reply. I had expected a long letter giving me references from the Bible or from Mrs. Eddy's writings to study and truths to ponder. However, the letter contained only two short sentences: "Dear Student, There is no such thing. My love to you both," and his signature. I was so disappointed! But when I read the note again, I just sat there and laughed with joy. It was so simple—in reality, there is no such thing as disease. I realized the truth and potency of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 473), "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power." God is All!
