Only one controller

Recently I had occasion to travel by plane during the air traffic controllers' strike in the United States. Television reports described air travel as delayed, variable, and operating short of safety standards. "Is this," I asked myself, "a risk I need to take?" But the real question seemed to be, Were my necessary travel needs and safety dependent on human control? The answer followed quickly. I realized at once that in reality there is only one controller, God, forever in complete control of all His creation. This is the control that fills all space.

I saw that the lessons to be learned from this experience were far-reaching and greatly beyond the narrow scope of my own or anyone else's self-interest, however valid such self-interest might seem from a personal viewpoint. I prayed to see this clearly, rejoicing in the divine reassurance, "All the earth is mine."  Ex. 19:5.

Deeply grateful for the knowledge of the Bible I had gained from the Christian Science Sunday School, I could feel the protection and comfort of the motherhood of God and the nonstop, universal law of good inherent in the fatherhood of God. The conclusions drawn by the news media were obliterated from my thought by this pure inspiration, this knowing of man's oneness with all-controlling God, good. I knew that everyone in every airport tower who yearns to work obediently, communicating correct messages and guidance, is actually evidencing something of God's loving protection and provision for all mankind.
