Spiritual sense heals

What is it that heals? The exercise of one's native spiritual sense. Through this God-given faculty the one who is ill—or perhaps a Christian Science practitioner handling the case—discerns with new clarity some facet of the perfect relationship of God and man. He gains some fresh inspiration, some heavenly insight into the deep things of God, and this new enlightenment destroys the belief in disease. It may be the absolute conviction that man is perfect because God is perfect—or that God and man in His image are inseparable.

Spiritual sensitivity is the capacity to perceive that God is ever present, that His goodness is to be seen everywhere. It is the ability to behold the divine creation and to recognize that nothing inharmonious is God-created and therefore real.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good." Science and Health, p. 505; All things that are truly good are spiritual, for good is God, Spirit. It follows that what is spiritually good cannot be based upon matter or cognized through the material senses but is seen only through spiritual sense. This divine faculty penetrates far beyond what is seen by material eyes and touched by human hands.
