A spiritual diet

Several years ago as summer approached, I realized that last year's summer clothes were not going to fit, because I had gained about twenty pounds.

As a new student of Christian Science, I had learned how to turn to God whenever a problem presented itself—whether it appeared in the guise of sickness, financial lack, relationship difficulties, or whatever. When it came to the question of overweight, though, I had always dieted, counted calories, placed certain foods off-limits, and accepted the cliché that if I even looked at a hot fudge sundae, I'd gain five pounds.

This time I decided to try the Christianly scientific approach, because I genuinely desired to grow spiritually. I thought about the great truths that God is Principle, Mind, Spirit, Love; that He is the only substance, Life, and intelligence; that man is God's reflection and so reflects only His qualities; and that this reflection is completely spiritual.
