Stefanie leads the way

Stefanie is five years old. She and her new baby sister live with their mother and father in New York. The girls have gone to the nursery in the Christian Science church since their earliest weeks, and Stefanie to the Sunday School since she was two. Here she learns the truth of God and man. Her mother sometimes reads her parts of the Lesson-Sermon, which is made up of passages from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science. Sometimesw Stefanie just thinks about God.

When Grandma comes to visit, Stefanie is allowed to go to Granny's room early in the morning when she gets up, and she and Stefanie have a private time. In the afternoon they sometimes take walks and in the evening read books, but morning time is special.

One morning when Stefanie came in, her grandmother was praying for a friend who needed help, so she asked Stefanie to be very quiet until she was done. Stefanie was quiet, then said, "You know, Grandma, if I were a practitioner and someone came to me for help, I would tell him, 'You can learn all about God in the Christian Science Sunday School just like me. Then you won't be sick!' " Grandma smiled at Stefanie's confidence in the healing power of what she was being taught in Sunday School. And she knew Stefanie was actually learning how to put it into practice. She was learning how to heal in the same way Christ Jesus, the Master, did.
