As I was removing a fruit pie from the oven, it slipped and spilled boiling fruit on my hand, leg, and foot. The pain and heat seemed unbearable, and I vehemently exclaimed, "There is no mind in matter!" Then, as if speaking to someone, I said, "And mortal mind, don't you dare tell me otherwise, for God, Spirit, is the only Mind and lawmaker. Lawless, nonintelligent matter cannot make any conditions, either good or bad, for me, God's perfect likeness."

I then declared that God's law of harmony was the only law in operation and was the law of prevention to all that is unlike good, nullifying error's false suggestions of pain, inflammation, and damage.

This declaration of Truth was being known as I endeavored to clean myself up. I then was determined not to look again at the burn, but to look away and strive to realize that God knows no accident, and His expression, man, cannot be a victim of accident. "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (Science and Health, p. 424).
