No need to share error

Gossip Stops Here

Careless, unfounded talk about other people can cause incalculable damage to human relationships. Harry Truman, former President of the United States, is reported to have had a card on his desk that read, "The buck stops here." He realized his final responsibility for the decisions of the executive office.

We alone are responsible for the stopping of any gossip that comes to us. To say with clear spiritual understanding "Gossip stops here" would be to check its circulation. And we can say so firmly, because we recognize that irresponsible and malicious talk is the projection of the devil, evil, and we can refuse to look at its devilish pictures.

What is it that is willing to listen to or to repeat wicked gossip? Is it the spiritual, God-created man, who is the reflection of his divine Parent? Not at all. It is the false sense of man, mortal and material, who is described in the Adam and Eve creation story in Genesis. The same old serpent suggestion whispers today, as it did to Eve: "Come on, take the forbidden fruit. Roll it on your tongue. Share it with someone." Do we really want to share error?
