Sonship and Brotherhood

We identify man correctly by recognizing him as the image of God, the one Father-Mother. This fact establishes undeniably another fact—the true identity of all as children of God. And from this can be deduced the brotherhood of all mankind. One cannot really understand man's unity with God in an exclusive way; it must include all God's ideas.

A basis for sonship is found in the words and activity of Christ Jesus. He frequently referred to God as Father. He said, "I go unto my Father," John 14:12; and when he taught his disciples a prayer, he began it with "our Father." Matt. 6:9; He not only knew his own identity as "Son" but he exemplified it, so that all may learn the truth of their own relationship to God as His children. Those willing to receive the Saviour, that is, those who were receptive to the truth that he knew, were uplifted and healed.

What has this sonship to do with you and me? Simply this— all who are striving to follow Jesus example and who understand, even in a degree, the true idea of sonship with God, as exemplified by Christ Jesus, find they can apply their understanding of this scientific fact to human problems and solve them. Everyone has this privilege.
