Finding Reality to Be Unvarying

Because divine Life is timeless and infinite, all good and All, reality is unvarying. It shows no fluctuation in either quantity or quality. Our grasping this is a great steadier of our thinking and an effective lever in our lifting of trouble-weights from others. A material sense of being may seem to be subject to substantial variations, evidencing changes both in the measure and condition of the things it judges good. But the material sense of things is quite misleading; we can be pulled out of all troubles as we substitute spiritual sense and let it direct our life.

Working to correct disorders according to Christian Science, we may believe at times that we're not making a lot of headway. We may say to ourselves after checking our success, "Everything is just the same!" Through spiritual inspiration we can view this scientifically. In the unvarying reality of being, everything indeed is still the same. Man's health, substance, security, completeness, are always just the same—both in quantity (they're infinite) and in quality (they're perfect). With no ebbing or flowing!

It is not the purpose of Christian Science to vary or readjust reality but to adjust our sense of what is real. Through gaining a scientific understanding of true being—in which Deity and its creation are unvaryingly perfect—we are held above what can, admittedly, seem very substantial fluctuations of good. But Mrs. Eddy writes, "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history." Science and Health, pp. 470-471;
