In the spring of 1935, I was told by a doctor that I had a growth that must be removed immediately. Arrangements were made for me to enter a hospital. The Wednesday evening before the operation, while out walking, I passed a Church of Christ, Scientist. I remembered that a friend had told me many years earlier, "If ever you are in need of healing, look up a Christian Science church." I went in. Testimonies were being given.

Very soon a woman behind me gave a testimony of the healing of a growth. She was hardly seated before I was beside her, asking where a Christian Science practitioner could be found. Smiling, she asked me to wait until the meeting was over, and then she'd find one who lived near me. This she did, introducing me to a practitioner who lived on the same street.

The next day I went to see the practitioner. After talking for over an hour, she asked me to go to the Christian Science Reading Room and borrow a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I stopped and bought the book on my way home. That day I asked the practitioner point-blank if the hemorrhaging would stop provided I did everything she had asked me to do in placing my full reliance in God. Looking me in the eye, she answered, "Yes." I shall always be grateful for her great faith in God and her direct answer, because never from that day until this has there been another hemorrhage!
