Spiritual Rationality: Possible?

Most people like to think they are rational beings. They want to consider that their thought processes are governed by a logical chain of reasoning. However, many assume material evidence to be the only basis of rationality. Much of what is not subject to material observation they tend to consider irrational or, at least, speculative.

Christian Science challenges this assumption and shows it possible, and very practical, to be spiritually rational—to reason logically from a purely spiritual standpoint. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Spiritual rationality and free thought accompany approaching Science, and cannot be put down. They will emancipate humanity, and supplant unscientific means and so-called laws." Science and Health, p. 223;

How does spiritual rationality work out in human experience? Does it mean ignoring evidence of discord or pretending it is different from what it is? No. But it means being deeply aware—through spiritual evidence—of the unbroken harmony of the divine universe created by an all-good, all-powerful God. Always this spiritual evidence is waiting to be practically demonstrated in human experience through healing, solutions to problems, and regeneration.
