I am grateful to have known Christian Science since I was a baby

I am grateful to have known Christian Science since I was a baby. The truth has been a wonderful help to me in school, vacations, and especially in work. My work as Sunday School teacher and usher, and in many other positions in the church, has brought wonderful experiences. But back of it all I have had a fine sense of Truth and the knowledge that God is always with me.

A healing, when I was young, stands out because of the naturalness with which it took place. One Sunday afternoon in August I walked to a ditch which was just across the street from our place. I had been told that I was not to jump over it, since it was deep and we were not to play in it. Apparently I forgot the instruction and decided to jump it.

When I fell, I landed heavily on the dirt below. Despite the pain, I was conscious of the presence of God, and this message was clear in my thought: "Be still, and know that I am God" (Ps. 46:10). I lay there for a minute or two and repeated this part of the textbook, Science and Health by Eddy (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought."
