A College Student Writes

Exams and Rest

Many college students approach final exams with anxiety, worrying about grades and unfinished assignments. If they stay up all night studying, they may be fatigued during exams the next day. If they don't stay up all night studying, they may not do well.

Christian Science lifts the student out of this anxious state. It teaches that God, Mind, created man perfect in His likeness. Man's nature is restful, poised, ever intelligent, and keen. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health: "Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. If Mind was first chronologically, is first potentially, and must be first eternally, then give to Mind the glory, honor, dominion, and power everlastingly due its holy name." Science and Health, p. 143; Divine Mind is omnipotent; since it is the only power that governs, man cannot be tired or anxious.

It is a false assumption stemming from a material sense of man that if one does not get a prescribed amount of sleep every night he will be very tired the next day, unable to function to his full capacity. God is able to do His work without tiring, and man reflects this ability. The Bible says, "Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?" Isa. 40:28; One can envision Christ Jesus as a man of boundless energy.
