Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science

Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science. When I was born, the doctors said I probably would not live, and that if I did I would be in ill health all my life and become a helpless invalid, mentally and physically. Later a number of other doctors in different parts of the country verified these statements.

What complicated the condition still further was a series of diseases I suffered, one of which settled in certain organs and caused years of suffering. Finally, I had a serious back condition that caused me to have a nervous breakdown. A similar back ailment had caused other members of my family to spend as many as thirty years as helpless invalids. Many prominent physicians and surgeons exhausted their skills trying to help them, but to no avail. The doctors wanted me to spend a year in the hospital undertreatment and at the end of that time to have a series of operations. However, they could promise nothing. Having seen other members of my family go through surgery with grave results, I refused medical treatment.

At this point I had Christian Science treatment. My healing was slow, but I am grateful for this because it compelled me to study constantly and to try to apply what I learned. Little by little I was lifted out of the darkness of fear and illness into the light of Truth. I learned in Christian Science that God has never afflicted man but has provided eternal harmony, health, and happiness for all His children and surrounded them with divine Love forever. The Bible reveals that "God is no respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34). I knew this included me, and I was healed.
