Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 3): "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech."

It has been over twenty years since we expressed our love and gratitude for Christian Science in one of the Christian Science periodicals. In the ensuing years God has indeed healed, directed, and protected our family, for which we are deeply grateful. I would like to give one recent proof of protection.

A hillside home we owned in the area of southern California was swept by the Paseo Grande devastating brush fire during October, 1967. After we received a telephone call at five o'clock in the morning reporting that the fire was being carried through the canyon toward our home by galelike winds, we called a Christian Science practitioner to help support us in prayer. Our home was vacant at that time, but we were told by neighbors, whom we saw at the relief center, that they were sure our home had burned, since the entire hillside had been in flames when they were evacuated.
