My gratitude for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy and Christian Science is very great. It has changed my concept of Deity from a manlike God to an understanding of God as Spirit and has given me some appreciation of Godlike man.

I would like to share an experience I had one Fourth of July quite a number of years ago. That year the Fourth came on a Tuesday. I was in my kitchen making a cake and thought my oven was heating to the right temperature. It was not heating, however, for the gas was not ignited and was coming from the burner noiselessly. The odor of food cooking on the stove made the scent of escaping gas go unnoticed.

I opened the door to the oven and found that it was cold. Thinking I had forgotten to light it, I struck a match. Immediately there was an explosion, and my entire face was burned. I started to the door to call my husband, who was in the yard, and met him coming in. He had heard the explosion and was coming to investigate. We both denied the evidence of burn and declared the truth of man's spiritual, perfect being in God, and in a little over half an hour the pain was gone. My face was very unsightly, however. My sister, who made her home with us, finished tending to the cooking, and I retired to my room so none of the other occupants of the house saw me.
