"Let it begin with me"

There is a beautiful song that opens with the words, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." Here is a challenge and an opportunity for everyone. Each one must accept the responsibility of overcoming in his own thought the errors of hate and fear that produce discord. Right where he is, each individual can establish peace in his own consciousness and contribute significantly to the peace of the world.

How can an individual demonstrate peace if he is surrounded by violence and strife? An example may be found in the life of Christ Jesus. His was a time that included much ignorance, poverty, and cruelty. But because he understood God as All-in-all, Jesus recognized only good as real. He was undisturbed by sin, disease, and death because he understood clearly man's true relationship to God as His spiritual, perfect child.

Not only did Jesus demonstrate peace for himself; he healed multitudes and comforted those who were ready to receive the Christ, Truth, he expressed. And his followers in every age may find reassurance in his words: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you....Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27;
