Advantages of Class Instruction

One way of developing an understanding of the scientific theology that heals the sick and sinful is to take advantage of the experience of class instruction. Mary Baker Eddy established this for students of Christian Science, providing authorized teachers and setting up rules of procedure for the educational system of her Church. She says in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany: "This Christian educational system is established on a broad and liberal basis. Law and order characterize its work and secure a thorough preparation of the student for practice."  My., p. 245

Who would not desire to take advantage of such a preparation? Who would not want to learn how to practice the healing laws of Christian Science, laws that control every kind of human situation and guide people into the very heart of heaven? Organized knowledge is far more effective than a haphazard grasp of any science. And no subject is more important for a human being to compass than is the Christ Science, because no other subject promises the progress in freedom of mind and health that comes with the knowledge of the truth that Science reveals.

The self-taught artist imagines himself better with the brush than he is. Not knowing the finesse, the subtlety, the skill in technique and interpretation that he should, he blunders along blissfully unconscious of shortcomings so obvious to the well-trained artist. Education under the guidance of an experienced teacher brings out meaning, form, and beauty he little comprehended before. And education does not limit originality but stimulates it.
