The Right Kind of Escape

The way of escape from evil that Christ Jesus marked out for us is not one of evading the problems around us. True liberty comes when we turn from the false, material thinking that has imprisoned mind and body to see ourselves as we really are, the perfect, spiritual image of God. To really escape from evil is to take the path of no return to former standpoints of thought and action. Under the guidance of our divine Father-Mother, we escape from ignorance into the blessedness of knowing and experiencing the liberty of the sons of God.

When faced with problems, many are tempted to wish for some outward change instead of a change of thought. If, when unpleasant circumstances are present, we could only be somewhere else or be like someone we know who is healthier, happier, more beautiful, or wealthier! Wishful thinking! Wishing is overlooking what we already have and are. In reality, there is nothing right where we are but the presence of God, good. If we roam the earth in search of a happier place, we find only what we take with us in thought. The belief that there is something besides divine Love right where we are is all that needs to be changed. The only journey we need to take is a spiritually mental journey, one from material sense to the heaven, the harmony, of Soul. Our understanding of God determines the good we embody and experience.

Those who have not yet found Truth sometimes seek devious ways of escape from the many problems presented by the material world. Some seek to drown evil in more evil through alcohol and sensual pursuits. This only fastens the heavy weight of enslaving habits about the necks of those who need to be freed. To desire merely to deaden the awareness of problems only postpones the day when the awakening to man's real, spiritual being must surely come.
