How great my debt is to Mary Baker Eddy for setting down her practical revelation of the healing Christ and of man's true relation to God! The enigma of good mixed with evil and of Truth cluttered with untruths clouded my early years with a sense of life's blighted promise to a point of despairing cynicism. Even so, I had some recognizable proofs of God's love and care.

I offer the following proof of God's practical presence in the hope that it may reassure some searcher who doubts that he has a workable acquaintance with God. This precious experience came before I learned of Christian Science. However, without Christian Science finding me since then, and the meaning it has brought to this experience, it would be nothing more than a fading memory.

As a nature lover, this experience found me clambering over precipitous granite crags while following the trail of some elusive mountain goats, whose progress was easy compared with my labored and increasingly dangerous scrambling. Hope for a glimpse of these rare creatures in their natural home led me finally beyond my scant ability as a mountain climber, and I was soon aware that my finger and toeholds were running out on the granite ledges. Forward progress was becoming impossible. A look backward showed me that the return would be even more hazardous than the climb, and I became so fearful that my tremblings were visible. At this point a moist cloud enveloped the mountain face, causing the granite to become impossibly slippery.
