About the first of May, 1966, I fell from a height of about four feet, landing on my left hip. As a result my left leg became loose from the hip, leaving this leg completely useless. Instead of calling an ambulance, I sat down at my desk and reached for my textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I opened Science and Health and began reading the chapter on Prayer. I continued to read and ponder that chapter for several hours. Then I switched to the chapter on Recapitulation for the next several hours.

I continued to read, switching from one to the other for three days and two nights. On the third night, feeling sleepy, I sat down on the bed thinking to lie flat on my back to get a little sleep, as my hip was so sore that I could not lie on it. But just through force of habit I rolled over on my left side; and, to my amazement, there was no pain. So to test further, I raised my body as high as I could and then let it drop on the mattress. Sure enough, there was no pain. So I just relaxed and lay there, breathing a prayer to God of "Thank You, Father," until I dropped off to sleep. The next morning I arose, and, forgetting a cane which I had been using as a crutch, went out to my garden, took up my cultivator, and cultivated a truck patch 50 by 50 feet. Then putting the cultivator away and taking hold of my lawn mower, I mowed a full lawn. Never have I experienced a pain or a limp since. I mowed several lawns all summer. I am grateful for my textbook, Science and Health. I am sure of that and hope never to be without one.

The only point I can bring out is to affirm the truth that Jesus taught when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). My thought was stayed on God and His idea. I did nothing else but continue reading for sixty hours from Science and Health. The truth alone brought about this healing.
