Caring for the Children

Christ Jesus evidently thought that children could be healed by spiritual means alone, for the Bible tells of several instances when he healed them in this way. Once when his disciples were annoyed because people were bringing infants to him to be touched, the Saviour said, "Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." Luke 18:16; At another time he said, "In heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven." Matt. 18:10; Here is a statement of spiritual law, and no human law can contravene it. The children can never be separated from the Father.

Jesus recognized the purity of the child thought, its nearness to God, its consciousness of heaven; and he exhorted his followers to express the same kind of humility children display (see Matt. 18:1–6).

People who do not realize the ability of Christian Science, or God's law, to heal are sometimes appalled by the fact that followers of this religion do not take sick children to doctors or give them drugs. The Scientists, however, know that the best care, the most powerful help their children can have, is given them by placing them in the hands of God through their prayers and the prayers of Christian Science practitioners.
