Standing in Awe of God's Presence

In the thirty-third Psalm, the Psalmist had just acknowledged God not only as the creator of the heavens and the earth, but also as the source of all goodness when he sang, "Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him." Ps. 33:8; The depth of his spiritual perception enabled him to understand that to experience the divine presence as peace, joy, harmony, and security one has to acknowledge but one all-powerful God, whose awe-inspiring presence and goodness fill all space. To stand in awe of God's presence requires the confident and joyous acknowledgment that God, good, is the only presence and power.

Today Christian Science is teaching mankind how to recognize the presence and power of God and to emulate the works of Christ Jesus, bringing into their own experience the blessings which God bestows. Healing occurs in Christian Science when an individual recognizes his true spiritual identity as God's image and likeness. At such a moment he is impressed with the reality of being and is standing in awe of God's presence. To arrive at this state of consciousness is the goal of every student of this Science.

Anxious moments often occur in one's life. On these occasions an individual may be overwhelmed momentarily by fear. However, Christian Science teaches that one need never stand in awe of the testimony of the material senses. Instead he must recognize that the man of God's creating reflects only the divine consciousness, or God, the source of all that is good and harmonious.
