No Dependence on Drugs

Why does the Christian Scientist not depend upon drugs, and how thoroughly does he practice this independence? In a day when drugs are being extensively developed and widely advertised, it is well to be sure of the reason why we take exception to this general belief and how we can faithfully implement this position. There is no room for compromise here because there is a very basic fact involved.

Christian Science reveals that all real control is vested in the divine Mind as the great and only cause. This Mind is infinite Spirit, or divine intelligence. The presence of God and the power of God to heal and bless mankind is a very immediate and practical remedy for every ill. There is no need for dependence upon matter, which is the opposite of Spirit.

Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health: "Drugs and hygiene oppose the supremacy of the divine Mind. Drugs and inert matter are unconscious, mindless. Certain results, supposed to proceed from drugs, are really caused by the faith in them which the false human consciousness is educated to feel." ^{ Science and Health, p. 484;} When we come to realize that the belief in drugs has no scientific basis, we can see that there is no safety in depending on them and no freedom derived from such dependence.
