Danny Proves There Is No Boogeyman

[Of special interest to children]

After Danny had hurried home from school and had changed his clothes, he and his friends went out to have fun together playing their favorite games.

Later one of them suggested, "Let's not play for a while; how about sitting on Danny's front porch and telling ghost stories?" Everyone agreed. Soon they were all laughing over tales of witches riding across the sky on broomsticks! Then someone began to tell about the boogeyman that is supposed to come out after dark and frighten people. The story seemed so real to one little girl that she began to cry: "I'm scared. I want to go home."

Now, Danny was a Christian Scientist, and so he knew that he must try to stop the talk that was making error seem so real. Only last Sunday his Sunday School teacher had asked the class to repeat the Golden Text they had learned by heart, "All things were made by him [God]; and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:3; And she had told them about the people in olden times who worshiped idols made of wood and stone—false gods. Danny remembered that Jesus came to tell everyone to obey the First Commandment: that there is only one God, who is divine Love and could never make anyone afraid.
