CHRISTMAS REVELATION

There fell from my eyes
"As it had been scales."
And though the day was cold,
I could feel the sun;
And though snow tombed the ground,
I knew it was melting
Through the sun's power,
Although I could not see it melt.
For even the motes in the air danced faster
On the Lord's day.

Suddenly, in my heart,
The snow of self-love
The ice of pride,
The bitter cold of vanity,
Melted,
And gushed
in freshets
of
Humility
And it was Christmas Day.

Cleansed of self,
Baptized like an infant,
My mind bathed in the glory of
His sacrifice,
I was strengthened,
In coldest winter, by the newborn
Warmth of spring,
By the ever-flowing spring
Of his love.
