From the time I started attending the Christian Science Sunday School, I have had many opportunities to learn more of God's love and care for His child. One of these opportunities occurred a few years ago.

One day there was a mishap in the kitchen, and for an instant I was surrounded by fire. The first thing I did was to feel my clothing to see if anything had caught fire. The smell of burned flesh and hair frightened me. I called my roommate, who telephoned a practitioner for me.

I was fearful and experiencing pain. Within an hour after the practitioner had been called, all pain was gone. However, my face, arm, and hands had swollen to twice their normal size and were badly affected. During the next few days there were various fears which presented themselves to my thought, such as the fear of infection and of being scarred. Much spiritual growth took place in my thinking through the elimination of these fears. I refrained as much as possible from looking at myself and thought instead of the perfect man God had created and of God's love that sends only good to His child.
