WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on September 12, 1965.]

The Lord will do great things
(Joel 2:21)

Literally, "The Lord hath shown greatness in doing." The verb here used is in the past tense, but this tense has been described as the "prophetic past" as "describing in reality what Jehovah will do"—as Driver expresses it. Compare Isaiah 65:24 and Christ Jesus' statement (John 11:41), "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me."

The former rain, and the latter
rain in the first month
(Joel 2:23)
