Perfection: The Basis of True Being

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 259), "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." This statement is in full agreement with and is in support of the teachings of Christ Jesus. He said (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

It is important to see clearly that Mrs. Eddy's significant pronouncement links true being and divine healing with the reverent acknowledgment of God's perfection. It honors Him with supreme and flawless excellence, with consummate exactitude, with eternal and harmonious continuance, with truth and love tenderly expressed in a perfect creation.

The healing ministry of Jesus was based on the perfection of God and man—God as infinite Spirit and man as His image and likeness. The compassionate mission of the Christ, Truth, which the Master embodied, is to "destroy the works of the devil" (I John 3:8). Jesus did not use his tremendous divine power for any other purpose. Behind every one of his valuable healing works— so important to the individuals he helped—was his understanding of the perfection of true being, a clear discernment of God as unfailing, omnipotent divine Principle, infinite Mind.
