Answered Prayer

Mrs. Eddy writes on the first page of Science and Health, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, —a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."

With these words Mrs. Eddy introduces a remarkable discussion on prayer which has not been equaled for simplicity, logic, and healing power since the Master, Christ Jesus, instructed his disciples how to pray in the intimate communion of Father and son. This discussion defines "prayer" as desire and shows that its efficacy lies, not in attempting to influence God, but in bringing human consciousness into harmony with divine Mind.

With this concept of prayer we find that words are less important than thoughts, profession less important than motives, and audible petitions less important than spiritual understanding.
