I first felt the joy of Christian Science...

I first felt the joy of Christian Science at a time of utter desperation. At that time, about eleven years ago, my husband was nearing the end of a long and crippling illness. We were dependent upon what I could earn from various writing jobs when I too was stricken and sent to a hospital for removal of a growth.

I knew nothing of Christian Science, but I was facing catastrophe. I knew well that medical science had not helped my husband, and I remembered friends who were Christian Scientists and who always looked healthy and prosperous. On the way to the hospital I picked up a copy of The Christian Science journal from a box in a cafeteria, and that night I read it. I understood only a smattering of what I read, and the operation was performed; but from that time on, I severed my connection with the medical profession and began to study Science.

Having found this religion, I did not turn back to the orthodox church in which I was reared. With the help of Christian Science friends, I was healed, almost immediately, of grief at my husband's passing. Interesting and lucrative work unfolded for me; as I completed one God-sent task, another came to me.
