My first healing through Christian Science...

My first healing through Christian Science treatment took place when I was a student in high school. At that time I was living in the home of Christian Scientists and was very curious about their religion. My many questions were answered intelligibly and lovingly, and I was invited to attend a Christian Science Sunday School.

I had attended the Sunday School only a few times when I became ill with influenza. After an alarming diagnosis by two physicians, who also agreed that my appendix should be removed immediately, my mother, with anxiety, decided to leave the choice of treatment to me. I chose Christian Science and was healed through the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. My hair, which had completely fallen out, was beautifully restored in a short time. The healing of the appendix was also complete at this time. The experience increased my desire to gain an understanding of Christian Science and its method of healing. My mother also became a devoted Christian Scientist.

Some years later, during the early months of pregnancy, my body became covered with an itching rash. I found it difficult to sit still or rest, and sleep was almost impossible. I would walk the floor and sing hymns to myself, claiming man's peace as the child, or idea, of God, divine Love. This condition was healed in about three weeks, during which time I had the help of a Christian Science practitioner. It was made clear that I must not connect the condition in any way with the pregnancy and that I should realize that God is the only cause and that He causes only good. A statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was very helpful, and I held to it faithfully. It reads (p. 162). "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." The birth of the baby six months later was a harmonious experience.
