Signs of the Times

The Reverend Millard Osborne of the Mennonite Church in The Lebanon Express Lebanon, Oregon

We so often pray, perhaps glibly, for God's protection and abiding care without then being aware of His answering that prayer. Surely no one could have experienced [the recent wind storm] without realizing the ability of the Almighty to shelter His creatures in the midst of storm and stress. The psalmist says in Psalm 91, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty .... He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust."

Life is God-centered. My rejection or acceptance of that truth does not alter it. Man's total existence is God-planned, God-originated, and God-given. If I do not accept this fact, then I say that things just happened so, or this and that are mere coincidences. But to do so is to refuse to believe the truth and relegates to God a very minor role.
