Inspired Listeners

Christ Jesus often admonished his followers to hear his words, and he linked hearing with understanding. In his parable of the sower, whose seed fell in various places, he warned (Matt. 13: 19), "When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart." But the good listener, who receives the word with understanding, he described as one who "beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

Those who have listened to the Master's precepts with inspiration and understanding have found their hearts spiritually enriched and their lives blessed. In the measure of their inspired listening they have spread the good news of Christianity: the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, the pricelessness of moral and spiritual qualities, and the conviction of immortality.

Christian Scientists are blessed in this age with the various means provided by Mary Baker Eddy for communicating the gospel of the Science of Jesus' teachings, which she discovered, and for spreading the good news that spiritual healing has been restored to Christian worship. The divine ideas found in the Bible, in Mrs. Eddy's writings, in the periodicals she founded, and in Christian Science lectures spiritualize the thought of the inspired listener. They bring him wisdom and understanding.
