Our times lend themselves with peculiar urgency to sober and chastening reflection. They pose the insistent and bitter question of how the world came to the present tragic pass. I venture to suggest that one answer may be found in the great Sermon on the Mount wherein Jesus laid down the guiding principles of the good and abundant life.
