Something to Consider

If evil did not claim to resist good, humanity would find rapid release from the mortal sense of existence with all its sins and woes. But it is evil's nature to claim to resist good, and this causes it to appear to grow worse as it strains in rebellion against the spiritual forces that destroy it. This is something for the Christian Scientist to consider. Then he will not be dismayed if he observes that evil seems to be expanding in certain areas of human thought and increasing its claim to control mortals. He will know that error is coming to an end, that its unreality is being proved. He will understand that the human race is being rapidly Christianized and that evil is rebelling at certain destruction.

Christ Jesus was showing that evil increases its efforts to survive the coming of the Christ, the spiritual idea of God, when he warned his disciples of "wars and rumours of wars," of "famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places," of betrayals and of "false prophets" (Matt. 24:6, 7, 11).

He went on to comfort them by declaring that these upheavals of error were indications that the angels of the Son of man were about to gather the "elect" together. He said (verse 35), "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." His promise should silence alarm over threats of the destruction of mankind. Scientific truths will never be destroyed. They will fulfill their destiny.
