For some time I had been searching for an understanding of God and a religion that I could truly believe in. My mother had passed on when I was eleven, and my father, my sister, and I were separated. I attended church, but was not satisfied; and though I had a home and attended school, self-pity engulfed me, and I developed an inferiority complex.

Through a wonderful healing of my sister, I had a faint glimmer of the Christ, Truth, and began attending services at a Christian Science Society.

I was deeply impressed with the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, given on pages 16 and 17 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. All my life I had repeated the Lord's Prayer, but I had never understood it; now every line had a special meaning, and the prayer was very comforting to me.
