Activities for the Armed Services

Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services receives many letters of gratitude from service personnel and their dependents, in addition to the regular reports from its field workers. Usually these letters report healings that have resulted from the work of Christian Science Ministers, Representatives, and Christian Scientists serving as Chaplains.

A Chief Warrant Officer at a United States Navy shipyard writes expressing thanks for the help he and his family have received from a Christian Science Minister. He states that when he learned that a position he wanted at another naval installation was vacant, he requested the billet. The Bureau of Naval Personnel told him that the transfer could be arranged if his Commanding Officer would release him. Unexpectedly several seemingly insurmountable obstacles arose which appeared to block the release. Through Christian Science help, one by one the obstacles were removed, and the transfer was effected. With much gratitude the Warrant Officer explains in his letter how this transfer, which was considered impossible by some of his naval associates, was realized. His words are: "My family and I know that it all worked out through a complete reliance on God."

Accompanying this letter was one from his wife, corroborating her husband's testimony. She proceeded to describe how through an injury to one of her legs a condition developed which appeared to be a large blood clot. She tried to apply her understanding of Science, but when she stood up the pain became intense and frightening. When she saw that she was not making progress, she called the Minister for help. Almost immediately the pain eased, and she was able to prepare dinner for her family and to go to the Wednesday evening meeting at a Christian Science church. The next morning most of the physical evidence had gone, and the following evening she was completely free.
