Science and Christianity

"Science will declare God aright, and Christianity will demonstrate this declaration and its divine Principle, making mankind better physically, morally, and spiritually." This statement appears on page 466 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

Science declares; Christianity demonstrates. To make mankind better physically as well as morally and spiritually, the Christian must have a right declaration or definition of God to demonstrate, and the Scientist must embody those qualities that characterize a Christian: humanity, honesty, affection, together with hope, faith, and meekness. Such scientific Christianity fulfills the Master's command, "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils" (Matt. 10:8).

Jesus declared God aright when to the woman at Jacob's well he said (John 4:24), "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." The declaration of Science rules out even the possibility of matter, because Science reveals Spirit as infinite. Then too when we understand God to be good, not merely a good God but good itself, we deprive evil of any possible reality.
