LET US CHALLENGE EVIL SUGGESTIONS

Evil suggestions may be presented to us, but it is the right of each individual to decide what to do with them when they come. Friends may voice fear, modes of communication may dramatize danger, but suggestion itself unless believed and acted upon is harmless. No matter how loud, quiet, or subtle, it has no power unless it is accepted as true. In the Bible, John, the beloved disciple of Christ Jesus, gives this advice (I John 4:1): "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

Christian Science teaches its students to challenge every suggestion of fear, failure, sickness, or any in-harmony. Evil is never true, for it is no part of God's creation. None of the persuasions of mortal mind, including subliminal advertising and hypnotism, can impose on the consciousness of one who knows that he is governed not by mortal mind or human will but by divine Mind, God.

Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 113), "He who refuses to be influenced by any but the divine Mind, commits his way to God, and rises superior to suggestions from an evil source."
