One evening I was seized with nausea, a severe pain, and weakness. I prayed as we are taught in Christian Science, but without any apparent results; so finally I called on a practitioner for help. I received immediate relief.

Several days later when I was retiring, the pain returned and persisted. I was tempted to call for help, but I felt that the healing work was done and that it was my obligation to accept that fact. In Science and Health is found "the scientific statement of being," which begins with these words (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter."

I repeated this statement several times, mentally analyzing each word. Suddenly the pain stopped, and I went to sleep. I awakened healed of all the symptoms.
