Christian Science came to me...

Christian Science came to me after the passing on of my mother. Among her personal belongings I found the Bible and a set of the writings of Mrs. Eddy, including the textbook. My mother had purchased these books in the latter years of her life.

About this time our family experienced a series of deaths, resulting in many tears and much sorrow. In consulting the pastor of our church for an explanation, I was asked to accept death as God's will, with the assurance that those who pass on are taken to heaven. Heaven was a confused sense of I knew not what and was somewhere beyond my comprehension.

My husband had also passed on before this time. I was living alone, ill and despondent, and I had no income. But I had plenty of time to read, and so I began reading the textbook. It seemed to talk to me and to tell me the answers to what I wanted to know. I found these statements very helpful (pp. 427, 428): "The dream of death must be mastered by Mind here or hereafter. Thought will waken from its own material declaration, 'I am dead,' to catch this trumpet-word of Truth, 'There is no death, no inaction, diseased action, over-action, nor reaction,' " and (p. 487): "Life is deathless. Life is the origin and ultimate of man, never attainable through death, but gained by walking in the pathway of Truth both before and after that which is called death."
