In 1912 I became acquainted with Christian Science. At that time my health was broken down. I was bothered with sick headaches and nausea. Knowing of the fine California climate and thinking it might benefit my health, my wife and I had decided to go there to live.

At first I seemed somewhat better, but we soon found that climate of itself was not sufficient to heal me. I was working for a construction firm, and one day I became so ill that I had to give up work and go home. The condition gradually grew worse. The thought came to me that my ailment was consumption. I had lost two sisters from that dreaded disease, and my fear of it became very great.

One day I prayed to God that if there was any way out of this condition, it might be shown me, and it was. A neighbor, seeing my condition, said to me: "Why don't you go over to Oakland and see your Christian Science friends there? They will soon cure you." We decided to go, hoping to get help in some way. These friends were only slightly acquainted with Christian Science.
