In "Science and Health with Key...

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read (p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." On many occasions in my experience, a simple statement of Truth, understood, has brought harmony where inharmony seemed real.

While in high school, I suffered from severe attacks of indigestion, which occurred when I seemed very tired. Although work was taken up in Christian Science, the condition did not yield immediately. One afternoon I was reading the chapter entitled "Footsteps of Truth" in Science and Health. This sentence arrested my attention (p. 218) : "The consciousness of Truth rests us more than hours of repose in unconsciousness."

I joyously exclaimed, "Here is the solution to my stomach problem!" The understanding that my rest is in the consciousness of Truth and does not depend upon the unconscious sleep of a material body completely freed me from any recurrence of this difficulty. Since that time, the statement has enabled me to stand on guard at the door of thought, and thus I have been protected from suggestions of fatigue.
