LETTER FROM HOME: LESSON-SERMON

(For Young People)

A letter from home is a wonderful thing:
It brings sweet assurance and makes the heart sing,
From father or mother it gives happy news
And also advises the thoughts you should choose
To keep you contented and well while away
And to help with the problems encountered each day.
It may say that the collie still watches your room,
That the corn is in tassel, the lilacs in plume,
Or it may cite a passage to lift you above
A false sense of self, but it always brings love.

Like a letter from home is the message you read
From the week's Lesson-Sermon to meet the heart's need!
It comes from the Father and Mother of all,
Our God, who takes care lest a sparrow should fall.
Interpreted clearly by Science, it shows
The true facts of being—the truth that God knows.
It tells of the promises God will fulfill
For you who obey Him and follow His will;
It gives you advice from the infinite Mind
And shows you that Love is all-knowing and kind.

This letter brings tidings of heaven at hand,
Where the glory of God is the light of the land,
Of angels that hover to comfort and bless,
And of law that maintains you in true happiness.
It mentions the beauty of Spirit's design,
Such as stars of the morning that sing as they shine;
It tells you how Jesus, our Master, healed woe,
And it gives you the rules that each student should know;
It sets forth examples that fit like a glove,
And this holy message is filled with God's love.
