OUR LECTURES: THEIR PURPOSE AND FULFILLMENT

To human sense a Christian Science lecture may be considered an event of one hour; but to spiritual understanding it represents the continuous unfolding of an infinite idea. Its message has its source in God, divine Mind, and, pulsating with life and enforced by divine law, it continues to develop to human consciousness. Reflecting God, divine Principle, the message is subject to no other influence or power but must "prosper in the thing whereto [God] sent it" (Isa. 55:11) .

Like all spiritual ideas in fulfilling their God-ordained purpose, the message of the lecture develops in human experience by degrees or ascending stages, just as a tree, a flower, or any living thing unfolds and grows.

Mary Baker Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 298), "Spiritual ideas lead up to their divine origin, God, and to the spiritual sense of being." Earlier in the same passage she points out, "Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality." In Hebrews we read (11:1), "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
