DISTINCT IDENTITY

In this age, in which the tendency is toward mass communicating and thinking, few things are more needed than the understanding of the distinctness and persistence of identity. How mortal mind would love to obliterate identity, blot it out, extinguish it! Why? Because the appearing of real identity in the likeness of God spells the finish of mortal selfhood, which is the only witness to all that is false and unreal.

But true identity can never be obliterated. It is sustained by divine law, and any ideology that would attempt to destroy it is doomed to failure. God's law of persistent identity cannot be disregarded. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 70), "The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal." What God decrees must be the pattern for humanity's ideal.

What adventure lies in seeking one's true identity, in bringing to light the selfhood which reflects divine Mind, God, as its source and which continues to unfold Mind's ideal forever! In this adventure one learns to discard the material beliefs that would rob him of identity or submerge him in a sea of general, accepted falsities.
