"A MOUNTAIN APART"

Today the Christian Science Reading Room affords a quiet place for study, prayer, and spiritual refreshment to all who desire it. It is recorded in the Bible that on several occasions Christ Jesus withdrew for meditation and spiritual refreshment to a mountain. We are told (Matt. 14:23), "When he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone." Undoubtedly he sought this "mountain apart" for its undisturbed atmosphere of peace and quiet.

The Reading Room is intended to serve the public, and one is maintained by every Church of Christ, Scientist, as a service to the community; but the Reading Room is equally important to the church member. For him, it is a sanctuary. He can get away from the distracting demands and interruptions that interfere with the peace and quiet which are essential to study.

Even one who owns and studies the Bible, together with all the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and subscribes to the periodicals will find in the Reading Room a blessed, healing atmosphere in which he can quietly read and ponder the truths he seeks to demonstrate in daily experience.
